Khatauni (Record of Rights) is the most important land revenue document in Uttar Pradesh. It contains details of the landowner, area of land, type of land, and revenue payable. What is Khatauni?

Khatauni is a record maintained under the UP Revenue Code, 2006, containing: name of the land owner (Khatedar), Gata number (plot number), area of land in bigha-biswa, type of land (agricultural, residential, commercial), details of any encumbrances, and current cultivation status. It is prepared and maintained by the Lekhpal (Village Accountant) under the supervision of the Tehsildar.
